Personal Branding

The bullsh*t around Personal Branding.

  • You need to be an extravert.

  • You need to improve your copywriting on LinkedIn.

  • You need to tell your backstory.

  • You need to create a character.

  • You need to make your readers experience positive emotions.

  • You need to use emojis.

  • Put a colored background behind your profile picture.

  • You need to tell your life story.

What? Do you think this is bullsh*t advice?

I just opened LinkedIn and read the articles of those who have more than 50,000 followers.

And yes, they're all pretty much full of shit.

Dot the i's and cross the t's

These tips aren't garbage. They are too contextual and don't fit your personality.

The magic recipe for success for some is different for others.

Why?

Because you are not the same people.

Listening to these tips is like listening to someone who says, "I would do that if I were you."

The problem is that it works for them and not for you.

We'll have to take a step back and look for the depth to give honest advice.

We're going to tackle one by one these tips to take a step back and find the recipe for success.

You have to be outgoing

WRONG. Keanu Reeves? Great personal branding. Introvert. No problem.

Just be you!

You need to improve your copywriting on LinkedIn

The truth is, you don't even have to be on LinkedIn.

You need to find the channel that fits you best.

Improving your copywriting is a good idea if you write.

If your thing is podcasting, improve your diction.

Improve what you're good at.

You need to tell your backstory

No, you don't need to tell who you were as a kid or what you ate yesterday.

But you do need to tell a story. That story is yours, and it doesn't have to be based on your personal history, but it needs to serve your purpose, no matter what you tell.

It doesn't have to be about you. It can be about your team and your companions.

It can be macro or micro. It must be honest, truthful, and meaningful.

You need to create a character

The only character that matters in your story is you. Don't play a role, be who you are.

Yes, you will be criticized. Yes, you will have haters... but you will also have actual fans.

Those who talk to you will be there to share the truth and be genuinely selfless.

You'll be able to really start sharing and exchanging.

You have to make your readers experience positive emotions

No. You must make them experience something worth experiencing. Not everything in life is positive; the important thing is what is constructive.

If it helps you and it helps other people, then it should be shared.

You have to use emojis

Emojis, memes, GIFs... If it's not you, it doesn't belong there.

Put a colored background behind your profile picture

Yes, if you want to. The important thing is that it reflects what you see in yourself and what others see in you.

Once again, it is crucial to match your image of yourself with the image others have of you and the image you would like them to have of you.

You have to tell your life story

No, you have to tell them what interests them and interests you. The junction of these two worlds brings the most to everyone.

The real tips for personal branding

  • Cultivate your difference without playing a role.

  • Be you. Authenticity is everything.

  • Let people rage and keep doing what you believe in.

  • Challenge yourself for the right reasons.

  • Take into account the regular feedback and not the exceptions.

  • Be there for others before you satisfy your ego. Give, and you shall receive... because it is a consequence, not a goal.

  • Spend more time living and talking about what you believe in... rather than thinking about what people would like to hear you say.

  • Yes, it's going to be hard to live up to. But it's still better than living a peaceful life as an alter-ego you hate.

Sharing is caring.
